There are four foundation piles. These piles are to be built up in suit from Ace to King. The game is won when all of the cards are moved here.

There are nine tableau piles. At the start of the game seven cards are dealt face up to the first three piles, then six cards to the 4th pile, five cards to the 5th pile, and so on until the last pile is dealt one card. The piles are built down by alternate color. Only the top card of each pile may be moved. Spaces may be filled by any available card.

Finally, there are six reserve cards at the bottom. Each card is available for play on the foundations or tableau.

With all of the cards visible, Raglan is a game of skill. An average player can win about 50% of the time, but much better scores are possible.

The Rules

- During the deal, the 4 Aces are removed from the stock to become the 4 foundations.

Foundations (4 piles: complete these piles to win the game)

- Build up in suit from Ace to King (for example, a 2Heart Suit can be played on an AceHeart Suit).

Tableau (9 columns)

- Build down in alternating colors (for example, a 10Spades Suit can be played on a JackHeart Suit).

- The top card of each pile is available for play on another tableau pile or on the foundations.

- Only one card at a time may be moved.

- Spaces may be filled with any available card.

Reserve (6 cards)

- Any card is available for play on the foundations or the tableau.

- Spaces are not filled.
